American Sign Language Class at Talent Prep
When children are taught English and Sign Language together,
they are processing language using both sides of their brains.
They process verbal sounds on the left side of the brain and
American Sign Language (ASL) as pictures and images on the
right side of the brain, giving them two places from which to
recall language. Our ASL curriculum combines ASL learning
with music, academic content, and different enrichment elements.
Your child will not only learn a unique and useful language
through this class but also get benefits for their cognitive
development and become a better learner!

How Can ASL Benefits Your Child
ASL is now classified as a world language, the same as Spanish, French, or any other foreign language. Therefore, if a child speaks sign language, the child is considered bilingual. Research has found that the use of signs and finger spelling will accommodate a wide range of learning styles: “verbal linguistic,” kinesthetic” and “interpersonal.” Using ASL is the representation of information through seeing, hearing, and movement, and the more pathways that are created in the brain, the stronger the memory. Studies also show long-term cognitive benefits, including:
+12 IQ point advantage
Improves attentiveness to social gestures of others
as well as of themselves
Boost Communication Skills
Enables children to communicate effectively
Reinforces the learning of educational concepts
such as ABC’s, animals, and other specific themes
Lowers frustration levels
Better grades in school
