Talent Prep Hunter College High School (HCHS) Exam curriculum is designed to familiarize students with the concept of the exam and eventually achieve their desired goal in the actual test. In Talent Prep HCHS Exam prep you can expect:

G6 Hunter College High School Entrance Exam Prep
Talent Prep Academy’s Grade 6 program prepares eligible NYC students for the Hunter College High School entrance exam and seventh-grade admission. Instruction focuses on reading comprehension, writing, mathematical reasoning, and solving unfamiliar problems under time limits.
Students work through targeted lessons, timed practice, and mock exams. Teachers review errors and writing samples to identify what each student needs to improve, then help them build accuracy, pacing, and confidence. Our preparation follows Hunter’s published exam guidance and adapts when the school releases updates.

Tuition Rates & Schedule
- G6 Small Group Class: $2625, as the full semester tuition. The program runs on 9/16/2026 to 1/13/2027. No Class on 11/25, 12/23, and 12/30.
$225 for each non-package session.
- 1-on-1 Private Class: $275/hr as in-person OR $215/hr as virtual. The minimum package starts with 10 sessions.
- Each student can have no more than 1 makeup session in each semester. Makeup session options are limited by availability.
G5 Hunter HS Readiness & State Test Prep
Talent Prep Academy’s Grade 5 program is for NYC students who hope to apply to Hunter College High School in sixth grade. Hunter uses fifth-grade NYS ELA and Math scores, or scores from certain approved tests, to determine eligibility for its entrance exam.
Our small-group class strengthens close reading, writing, multi-step problem solving, and mathematical reasoning. Students practice the skills needed for fifth-grade tests while developing the deeper thinking they will need for the Hunter entrance exam the following year. The goal is to help your child approach the qualifying tests with stronger skills and enter sixth grade ready for the next stage of preparation.
*In-person Instructor is a formal Hunter ES 5th-grade teacher with 11+ years of teaching experience.
**Virtual Tutors are graduates from Hunter High School, with 4+ years of teaching experience.

Hunter College High School Exam Eligibility Requirements

Hunter College High School Eligibility for Fall 2027 Entry
To be eligible for the Hunter College High School Entrance Exam for Fall 2027 entry, applicants must be currently enrolled in 6th grade, reside full-time in one of New York City’s five boroughs, and meet Hunter’s qualifying assessment requirements.
Students qualifying through the Spring 2026 fifth-grade New York State Exams must meet both of the following minimum scores:

NYS ELA: 478 or higher

NYS Math: 497 or higher
The entrance exam is scheduled for January 27, 2027.
For students who just missed the cutoff:
Students whose scores are slightly below the standard cutoff may be eligible for consideration through Hunter’s Academic Insights Profile (AIP) pathway. AIP consideration is a separate eligibility pathway and does not change the standard qualifying scores listed above. Here is the minimum score requirement of AIP:

For students without state exam scores:
Students who did not take the state exams can still qualify if they took a comparable test measuring ELA and Math skills in the 5th grade. Examples of acceptable tests include:

ERB Comprehensive Testing Program 5 (CTP 5): 90% or higher in ELA and Math

Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS): 90% or higher in ELA and Math

Stanford 10 Achievement Test: 90% or higher

TerraNova 3: 90% or higher
